Giovanni's Room is a 1956 novel by James Baldwin about an American man named David living in Paris who struggles with his sexuality and is torn between a passionate affair with an Italian bartender, Giovanni, and his engagement to an American woman, Hella. The story explores themes of sexual identity, shame, societal pressure, and the destructive nature of denying one's true self.
